“A PULPEIRA” PRODUCT OF ARCOS REFRIGERATORS RECEIVED TWO GOLDEN STARS FROM THE PRESTIGIOUS INSTITUTE “iTQi” IN BRUSSELS

The municipality of O Carballiño today congratulated the González Atanes family for the quality award recently obtained in Briselas for the product marketed by the company of their property, Frigoríficos Arcos S.L., with the brand “A Pulpeira”.

In an act chaired by the mayor, Francisco Fumega, the city council awarded the Frigoríficos Arcos grocery store with a recognition for its work in the expansion of the main course of the Carballinesa cuisine, the octopus. The event was attended by the Councilor for Tourism, Xosé Manuel Dacal, as well as brothers Daniel and Camilo González Atanes, owners of Frigoríficos Arcos and promoters of the A Pulpeira brand.

Fumega highlighted the merit of this company, with more than fifty years of experience, and thanked the fact of spreading a typical dish across the borders, always bearing the name of O Carballiño as a shield. “R&D, innovation and quality, this is the way of the future,” said the mayor, who was proud that the O Carballiño business park hosts an initiative of such national and international projection.

On the other hand, Daniel González Atanes, affirmed that what they wanted was to improve the quality standards in the elaboration of the cephalopod, and both he and his brother, Camilo, agree that the global recognition that his product had is a pride , something that will bounce for the benefit of O Carballiño.

Under the A Pulpeira brand, “Frigoríficos Arcos” SL won two gold stars in the awards of the Institute of Taste and Quality (iTQi), based in Brussels. The jury of this event is made up of the most prestigious culinary associations in Europe, such as Verband di Köche Deutschelands, the Federation of Cook Associations of Spain or the Culinaire Maitres of France, among others. Within them, we can find chefs such as Ferrán Adriá, Mario Sandoval or Alberto Chicote. Companies from more than 120 countries, such as Estrella Galicia, Pascual, Heineken or Coca Cola, participate in the Superior Taste Awards of the iTQi.

“Frigoríficos Arcos” SL is responsible for combining tradition with innovation. Headed by the Irmáis Daniel and Camilo González Atanes, they have a very internalized way of cooking the octopus of Arcos pulpeiras, which is what introduces the distinction for which the town of O Carballiño is known. Based on this, the rest is homegrown. The A Pulpeira brand renews the market with its new way of doing: steamed octopus. The process begins with the highest quality raw material, going through vacuum packaging and steam cooking in its own yoke, which translates into an explosion of enhanced flavor thanks to the preservation of its vitamins, proteins and salts minerals, maintaining the taste of the sea. It is a product of the highest quality, which can be kept refrigerated for up to 150 days and easy to recover in the microwave, on the grill or in the “water bath”.

The product of the Atanes brothers is the result of two years of research and tests in terms of quality and taste. It is a dish that is used by chefs from all over Spain, and is marketed internationally, reaching places like Australia, South Korea and England.

Currently, the production is 25,000 kilos per month, and the sale abroad already gets 12%.
